From the Inside Out: A Former Planned Parenthood Director Speaks Out on What Women Deserve
In a recent Guiding Star webcast, Leah A. Jacobson, sat down with Mayra Rodriguez, a former Planned Parenthood director, to expose the unsettling realities of what passes as “women’s healthcare” in America—and why the narrative must change.
With over 16 years working for Planned Parenthood, Mayra wasn’t just an employee—she was a true believer. She defended abortion access, promoted chemical abortions, and trained staff to present the abortion pill as “no more dangerous than Tylenol.” But behind the slogans and scripts, Mayra began to witness a much darker truth
“I used to tell women, ‘When you feel that big blood clot, just flush it down the toilet,’” she shared. “But then I took calls from women crying, saying, ‘It’s not a clot—it’s a baby. I see its face and hands and feet.’” – Mayra Rodriguez
The trauma was undeniable—and it was being dismissed.
Even as a high-ranking director, Mayra was stunned to learn after leaving the organization just how much federal funding Planned Parenthood receives. In 2022–23 alone, they performed a record number of 402,230 abortions and took in $792 million in taxpayer dollars—while denying even basic prenatal or miscarriage care to women.
And the narrative? “It’s less risky than childbirth,” they were told.
But a groundbreaking EPPC study now shows that complications from the abortion pill are 22 times more common than previously reported. The truth is surfacing, and women deserve to know it.
“I Imagined They Lived Happily Ever After”
Mayra’s voice trembled as she reflected on her years selling abortion as salvation.
“In my head, I imagined the woman I sent for an abortion went on to finish school, become a doctor… anything but a mom. Because in that world, being ‘just a mom’ wasn’t enough.” – Mayra Rodriguez
The abortion industry preys on fear and shame—especially in communities like Mayra’s own Latino community, where she was trained to coach women on how to hide their birth control and lie about their abortions.
And yet, no one at Planned Parenthood blinked when she brought up the trauma, the complications, the hemorrhaging, the regret. “They already knew. They just didn’t care.”
What Women Actually Need
“What we’re missing,” Mayra shared, “is a place that offers true, full-spectrum care—from a positive pregnancy test to postpartum support, where women are treated with dignity, not dismissed or shamed.”
That’s why she’s joined forces with The Guiding Star Project—to build a life-affirming alternative that honors the natural strength, health, and design of a woman’s body—Wholistic Women’s Healthcare© that exclusively available at our Guiding Star Centers nationwide. We provide full spectrum care for girls as young as age 9 all the way through menopause and all of the sacred moments in between.
“I want that mom who’s just given birth, who feels overwhelmed and exhausted, to have a safe space to say, ‘I need help’—and be surrounded by compassion, not judgment.” – Mayra Rodriguez
We believe this too. And we’re building it—together. Together we can build a fearless future for every woman and empower her to be fearlessly female.
